Short and Sweet // Grass Valley, CA

At the end of July we drove out to Grass Valley for a short weekend with friends. I had a photo shoot up there on a Friday and Jeffery took the train and met me that evening. On Saturday we hiked Gracie Ditch in Nevada City. It was nice and shady, had a creek for the pooch, and opened up to some pretty spectacular views.

After our hike we cooled off in a doughboy pool, horsing around with floaties, and I laughed harder than I have in ages. It was so much fun, and so refreshing. We had BBQ tacos for dinner and it was so good. Once again this little peach stole the show. In these pictures she is 3 months old, growing up so fast and already such a beauty. We love her to pieces. And I quite clearly have a problem: I can't keep my camera off of her for more than a minute. It's those eyes!

Every trip out there restores something in us. It is so good to slow down, be with people we love, and get outside and enjoy nature. And being around puppies and babies doesn't hurt either.

P.S. Our last visit up there was pretty great too.

Robertson Family Session // Lincoln Park & Lands End Trail // San Francisco, CA

This boy is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. And his mama and I go way back, our childhood homes were within walking distance from one another. We got together in the city on a foggy afternoon at the end of May to shoot some family portraits, a couple days before Liam's first birthday. He was all smiles.

Miles waiting patiently.

It was a bit foggy out, which meant we had the entire place to ourselves.

Have you ever seen a more beautiful family? We had a lot of fun together. Welcome to one, Liam. It looks good on you. And congratulations Cheyenne and Ian on four years of marriage!

Clara Turns Two!

This month is flying by. And I'm the happiest I've been in a long time. A lot of angst has subsided and I'm feeling very grateful for where I am. Grateful for the good people in my life, success in my business, and appreciative of beautiful, healthy days. And this little girl is taking up a pretty sizable chunk of my heart.

Clara turned two a few weeks ago, and I snapped these photos at her little birthday celebration at a Berkeley park. I can't believe how fast she's growing up, and it's only accelerated by the presence of her older sister, Nyah, whom she absolutely adores. I have the pleasure of spending a few mornings a week with Clara, usually while Nyah is at preschool, and sometimes I get to watch them both. I can't adequately verbalize how much I enjoy them, but I know they're my absolute favorite subjects to photograph. And they're really so much more than just eye candy.

Welcome to two, sweet Clara Bear! It looks good on you.

P.S. More from last fall, last spring, and Clara's first birthday

Greg and Suzanne // Hunter's Birth // Bay Area Birth Photography

I arrived at the hospital at 8 pm on Thursday, March 6th. Suzanne's contractions were evenly spaced. Greg and the midwives from the Pacifica Family Maternity Center were there, supporting her through her labor. Piano music was playing on Pandora, and the feeling in the room was a mixture of excitement, calm, focus, and anticipation. Over the next five hours we all breathed together.

Greg and Suzanne's moms waited patiently downstairs until they were invited in to meet their grandson (and they had yet to learn his gender).

Hunter was born at 1:52 am on Friday, March 7th. That was four weeks ago today. Documenting his birth was a powerful and awe-inspiring experience, to say the least. Greg and Suzanne were absolutely amazing. The amount of strength in that hospital room could have moved mountains. I couldn't help but feel incredibly proud of them and invested in the health and well being of the whole family.

Greg and Suzanne, thank you for trusting me to photograph this intimate occasion. It was life changing. Wishing you all the very best!

Sibling Portraits on the Farm

These three have beautiful souls. Every moment I have spent with them has been a blur of excitement, joy, love, and curiosity. The older two were the flower children in my wedding (and they were terrific!) and this was my first time getting to know the littlest one, who was in her gorgeous mama's belly at the time. I have wanted to photograph them for years! So lucky I got to chance, and so lucky to know them.

I love this sequence. I was so captivated by her that somehow I shot 30 frames in 60 seconds!

Thank you Leimomi for sharing your gorgeous children with me. I can't wait to get together next time we're in Hilo. Love love love to you and your family.

Welcoming Baby Kanoe

These are the photographs I love to take. Authentic. Relaxed. Beautiful. Honest.

Maile just became a big sister, and my family and I got to meet baby Kanoe when she was 11 days old. Maile showed us all of her favorite toys, all of her books. This almost three-year-old was thrilled to have us as her audience. While Kanoe slept, Maile rode her trike on lava rock road out front.

I love her little hand!

Sarah, she's beautiful. You all are. Thank you for sharing your darling family with me. I can't wait to witness the next chapters.

Peppermint Ice Cream

I met up with my friend Jeannine for an ice cream date with her kiddos on the Friday before winter break.

After tasting their options, both kids chose peppermint.

This was such a fun and relaxed shoot, and I think we got some keepers.

Family Session at the Edible Schoolyard, Berkeley // East Bay Family Portrait Photography

This is one incredible family, and it has been a joy working for them and getting to know them this past year. I photographed them back in April, and I can't believe how much the girls have grown.

I feel lucky to witness this young family grow, to share in their milestones and challenges. The relationship these sisters share is special. They look after one another.

Wishing you all the happiest of holidays and I'm excited to see what the new year brings!
